Alessandro Romano is preparing for a special night . Tomorrow, October 27th, the midweek matchday ninth of Serie A will see Roma and Cagliari face off at the Olimpico. The 2006-born player will return to where he grew up, where he had the opportunity to gain a foothold in the Italian top flight.
On January 6, 2026, the midfielder made his debut for the Giallorossi, playing four minutes against Lecce, and again four days later against Sassuolo (two minutes). The Roman club then decided to send him on loan to Spezia to gain experience, despite interest from several Serie A clubs.
Then, in the summer, the final decision was made: Roma needed a capital gain, and the Italian-Swiss player guaranteed a significant profit for the club . So Cagliari approached them, offering five million euros plus bonuses and a 10% share of the difference between the potential transfer price and the sum paid by the Sardinians. A done deal, and tomorrow the two parties will meet again.
Romano, from sacrifice to object of desire of the Serie A big clubs
Romano hasn't forgotten his time with the Giallorossi . He had the chance to shine at Cagliari, and now he's in the sights of top Serie A clubs and has already made his debut for Roberto Mancini's national team. In his presentation press conference in Sardinia, the player recalled his senior debut with Roma : " My two first-team appearances in Rome were an unforgettable experience. I grew up in Rome."
Then, speaking to Rai Sport , after his first call-up to the Italy national team, he returned to his journey : “A lot has happened, especially the transition from the youth teams to senior football. I grew a lot at Roma. Everyone has their own path. I'm happy for Pisilli, who's found his place, even if it took him a while.” So, no hard feelings about his departure from Roma.
Alessandro is now playing like a veteran and is irreplaceable in Pisacane's team. Gasperini had this to say about Romano : "His sale to Cagliari? Unfortunately, it was due to capital gains and the balance sheet, which the club needed. Sometimes the best players have to be 'sacrificed' for the sake of the balance sheet. And it's truly a shame." Now that star, who has already scored his first goal in eight Serie A appearances, will try to add to his tally against his past.
