Como-Venezia is a match destined to be talked about : not because of Lucas Da Cunha's goal or the result, but because of a refereeing incident. The Venetians are complaining about a penalty. In the 28th minute of the first half, Luis Milla handled the ball in the penalty area; Maria Sole Ferrieri Caputi revoked it after an On Field Review. Luca Marelli commented on the incident to DAZN.
These are the words of former referee Francesco Cosso, critical of the VAR decision : "In the 28th minute, Milla's arm was touched: Caputi considered it and awarded a penalty. The feeling was that the point of contact was being guessed, then the OFR called to revoke the penalty: in my opinion, a senseless decision, there was a movement with the left arm towards the ball. This was a penalty rightly awarded on the pitch and recalled by the VAR. The touch was in the penalty area, otherwise the match official wouldn't have been called to the monitor."
Marelli: "Caputi should have confirmed his decision."
How do you explain the decision? "Looking at the footage, I have no explanation. This is a classic penalty, which would have been awarded with an OFR if the referee had made an incorrect decision. The movement is clear."
Marelli then concluded : "This season, we've seen much more obvious incidents confirmed or not confirmed: in this case, Caputi was well-positioned, I don't understand why she was called to the OFR. She should have confirmed the decision."
