Roma have conceded more goals in recent games than in their opening outings of the season. The Giallorossi have conceded three goals against Napoli and two against Pisacane's Cagliari, a decline that no longer allows the Roman side to be the best defensively in Europe's top five leagues.
The paradox is that the central defenders continue to provide Gian Piero Gasperini with certainty , given that the options have multiplied compared to last season: Balerdi and Koulierakis were not present, while Ghilardi has improved considerably in recent months under Gasperini. The pillars remain Mancini, Ndicka, and Hermoso, who, however, are at risk of losing their positions given that there are quality players behind them.
Roma's defenders are on the attack: they've already scored 8 goals for the team.
Mancini, Ndicka, and Hermoso have played 798, 727, and 812 minutes, respectively, between the league and the Champions League, confirming their role as the cornerstones of Gasperini's defense. As reported by Il Messaggero, they are followed by Balerdi (468) , who in the space of a few weeks has become a fixture thanks in part to his brace at the Maradona stadium, Ghilardi (248), and Koulierakis (206).
The offensive performance of Gasperini's central defenders is surprising. Roma have scored 31 goals this season, and eight of them have come from their fearsome defenders (25,8%), thanks to two assists each from Ghilardi and Mancini and two goals from Balerdi and Hermoso.
